We are a group of neurodivergent, specialist clinicians who specialise in assessing and supporting neurodivergent individuals and families. Our core staff group developed the concept of AbleMinds while discussing our own individual experiences during neurodivergent assessments and the post diagnosis support we each received. Although between us we had experience of seven different Local Authority services, none of us felt we were well supported through this adjustment period. Reflecting on our shared experiences led us to believe that what had been missing was neurodiversity informed support.
As practicing neurodivergent clinicians, our unique, lived experience is the foundation, sometimes even the driving force, upon which our training in Psychology, Counselling, Coaching or Psychiatric Nursing is built. This experience means that we understand what it’s like to be neurodivergent, often we have our own experience of the effect this has on an individual’s life. We understand the broader impact of a positive assessment, and how important continued support, family support, and peer support following an assessment can be.
Our Wrap-around service is designed to provide post-diagnostic support. It provides opportunity for our Neurodivergent Specialists to tailor support to the individuals personal needs, drawing on the professionals lived experience and training in order to understand and support each client’s unique presentation of neurodivergence.
Our clinical team includes Post Graduate Psychologists registered with the British Psychology Society, Mental Health (Psychiatric) Nurses registered with the National Healthcare Council, Accredited Counsellors and Coachs registered with BACP and ACCPH.
We consult with a General Medical Council registered GP, Speech and Language Therapist registered with Royal Collage of Speech and Language Therapists, and Occupational Therapists registered with Health and Care Professionals Council, whenever an assessment requires more in-depth Differential Diagnostic processes, and all our consultants are also neurodiverse.
